How temperature conversion works

Temperature scales use offsets as well as scale factors. Celsius converts to Kelvin by adding 273.15. Fahrenheit converts through the exact relationship K = (°F + 459.67) × 5 ÷ 9. The selected output scale is then derived from Kelvin. Repeating decimal results are kept at calculation precision and shortened only for display, where approximation is marked explicitly.

Absolute zero and supported scales

This converter supports Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. Inputs below absolute zero are rejected: −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F and 0 K are the minimum physical temperatures on their respective scales.
